Spielberg and DiCaprio may reteam on Ulysses S. Grant biopic

Deadline has learned that Academy Award winners Leonardo DiCaprio and Steven Spielberg are currently in talks to work together again for the first time in over 15 years on a biopic about Union army General Ulysses S. Grant.

The biopic is currently set at Lionsgate and Appian Way after the two picked up the film back in November with David James Kelly (Robin Hood) scripting the film. If everything comes together in negotiations with the actor and director, it will re-team the two after their work together on the 2002 biographical comedy Catch Me If You Can, in which DiCaprio starred alongside Tom Hanks (Toy Story), whom Spielberg just recently directed in The Post.

Spielberg is just coming off of Post and the audience-loved hit Ready Player One, and although he has set the fifth installment in the Indiana Jones franchise and West Side Story adaptation as his next films, Deadline reports that sources are labeling this biopic as a priority.

Though DiCaprio has roles set for the next few years, it has been three years since his performance has graced the big screen in the acclaimed The Revenant, which won him his first Academy Award for Best Actor. Given his and Spielberg’s packed future, negotiations will be centered around pinning down when the two can begin work on the project.
