Netflix’s The King Adds Ben Mendelsohn & More As Filming Starts

<img src="https://https://static1.srcdn.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Rogue-One-Ben-Mendelsohn-Krennic.jpg" /><p>Ben Mendelsohn, Robert Pattinson, Lily-Rose Depp and others will join Timothée Chalamet in Netflix's Shakespeare-based film <a href="https://screenrant.com/tag/the-king/"><strong><em>The King</em></strong></a>, which is set to begin shooting on June 1st. David Michôd will direct the drama after <a href="https://screenrant.com/war-machine-trailer-brad-pitt-netflix/">previously helming the Brad Pitt satire</a> <em>War Machine</em> for the streaming service. <em>The King</em> was co-written by Michôd and Joel Edgerton, who previously collaborated on <em>Animal Kingdom</em>.</p><p>Based on elements of the Shakespeare plays <em>Henry IV</em> and <em>Henry V</em>, <em>The King</em> <a href="https://screenrant.com/netflix-king-movie-cast-timothee-chalamet/">stars Oscar-nominee Chalamet as Hal</a>, the newly crowned monarch who must learn what it takes to be a king from his old friend and mentor Falstaff (Edgerton). In the plays, Hal begins as something of a disgrace, spending his time in taverns with Falstaff and his bawdy friends, much to the chagrin of his father Henry IV. But when Hal inherits the crown upon the death of Henry, he must reject his loose ways and prove himself worthy of the throne.
