Ocean's 8 Scores Biggest Box Office Opening In The Franchise

Back in 2001, Steven Soderbergh remade the heist film <em>Ocean's Eleven</em>, and it ended up spawning one of the more successful film trilogies of the 21st century. The three installments collectively grossed more than $1 billion worldwide, which made a continuation of the series a relatively safe bet. For this spinoff, director Gary Ross assembled an A-list ensemble of actresses, led by Sandra Bullock as Danny Ocean's sister, Debbie.</p><p>With <em>Ocean's 8</em> boasting a star-studded cast and relatively positive reviews, it seemed like a foregone conclusion it would win its debut weekend (especially with <a href="https://screenrant.com/tag/han-solo/"><em>Solo: A Star Wars Story</em></a> floundering). The only question was how high would it go. Early projections<a href="https://screenrant.com/oceans-8-opening-weekend-projection/"> had a haul in the range of $30-36 million</a>, but <a href="https://screenrant.com/oceans-eight-box-office-predictions-solo/">more recent estimates were higher</a>.
