FX is adapting Victor LaValle’s The Changeling
The Hollywood Reporter brings word that FX will be adapting Victor LaValle’s The Changeling into a TV series for their network. The novel was highly sought after by networks and underwent an extensive competitive bidding round.
The Changeling is about Apollo Kagwa, who is a rare book dealer and new father, in love with his wife, Emma, and their infant son Brian, named after the vanished father who haunts Apollo’s dreams. But when Emma commits an unspeakable act of violence and disappears, Apollo’s left grasping at the threads of his unravelled life, following them through a labyrinth of strange characters, mysterious islands and haunted forests, all occupying the same space as the five boroughs of New York City.
Kelly Marcel (Fifty Shades of Grey, Terra Nova) will be writing the script for the series.
The Changeling project will be produced by Annapurna Television as part of a growing effort by the company to build up its broadcast, cable, and digital reach. This independent studio has worked on Fox’s Mixtape pilot, the upcoming Netflix project The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, and is currently working on a TV series focusing on the Nxivm sex cult.
Victor LaValle is an American author whose works generally have a touch of the magical, mysterious, and supernatural interwoven in the text. He’s written and published several novels so far: The Ecstatic, Big Machine, The Devil in Silver, and The Ballad of Black Tom. The Changeling is the first of his works to be adapted for the screen.
