BREAKING: Roseanne cancelled by ABC after Barr’s racist tweet
The ABC Television Network has announced that they have cancelled Roseanne after previously renewing the series for an 11th season just 2 months ago. The events that saw Roseanne cancelled stem from star Roseanne Barr’s disgusting, racially-charged Tweet (since-deleted) regarding Valerie Jarrett, a top former aide to President Obama. Barr, an avowed Trump supporter, crossed a major line with the remark that exclaimed that Jarret looked like “Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby.”
“Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,” ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey said in an official statement.
Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger also through his opinion into the ring, siding 100% with Dungey’s decision.
From Channing Dungey, President of ABC Entertainment: “Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show.”
There was only one thing to do here, and that was the right thing.— Robert Iger (@RobertIger) May 29, 2018
I apologize. I am now leaving Twitter.

I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste.

Roseanne’s recent comments about Valerie Jarrett, and so much more, are abhorrent and do not reflect the beliefs of our cast and crew or anyone associated with our show. I am disappointed in her actions to say the least.

This is incredibly sad and difficult for all of us, as we’ve created a show that we believe in, are proud of, and that audiences love— one that is separate and apart from the opinions and words of one cast member.

Season 10 of the revival earned huge ratings and generally favorable reviews from critics for its short 9-episode run, which just ended on May 22. The classic sitcom, featuring the complete original cast and new series regulars, explored life, death and everything in between through the brutally honest lens of the Conner household. The revived series starred Roseanne Barr as Roseanne Conner, John Goodman as Dan Conner, Laurie Metcalf as Jackie Harris, Lecy Goranson as Becky Conner-Healy, Sara Gilbert as Darlene Conner, Michael Fishman as D.J. Conner, Emma Kenney as Harris Conner-Healy, Ames McNamara as Mark Conner-Healy and Jayden Rey as Mary Conner. Sarah Chalke, who played the character Becky in later seasons, also appeared in another role.
Roseanne was produced by Carsey-Werner Television. Executive producers included Roseanne Barr, Sara Gilbert, Tom Werner, Bruce Helford, Whitney Cummings and Tony Hernandez.
