Solo: A Star Wars Story Box Office Has Massive 77% Friday-to-Friday Drop

Lucasfilm's revival of their famed franchise went about as well as one could hope the past couple of years, as <em><a href="https://screenrant.com/tag/star-wars-7/">The Force Awakens</a>, <a href="https://screenrant.com/tag/rogue-one/">Rogue One</a>,</em> and <a href="https://screenrant.com/tag/star-wars-8/"><em>The Last Jedi</em></a> combined <a href="https://screenrant.com/disney-star-wars-box-office-total-lucasfilm/">to gross over $4 billion at the worldwide box office</a>. Unfortunately, that hot streak came to a screeching halt with <em>Solo</em>. Arriving on the heels of massive hits <a href="https://screenrant.com/tag/the-avengers-3/"><em>Avengers: Infinity War</em></a> and <a href="https://screenrant.com/tag/deadpool-2/"><em>Deadpool 2</em></a> (plus battling negative publicity due to the production woes), the spinoff landed softly over the Memorial Day weekend with <a href="https://screenrant.com/solo-movie-memorial-weekend-opening/">$103 million over the 4-day frame</a>.</p><p>Without any new high-profile releases this weekend and mostly positive audience word-of-mouth, there was hope <em>Solo</em> would be able to rebound and <a href="https://screenrant.com/solo-movie-box-office-second-weekend-predictions/">post a strong second weekend</a> as it looked to recoup its <a href="https://screenrant.com/solo-star-wars-story-budget-force-awakens/">massive $250 million production budget</a>.
